In 2002, Detroit was on the verge of collapse as the city faced financial bankruptcy that would arrive 11 years later. The depiction of this town in this work, coupled with the cold winter weather, gives an undeniable sense of desolation. A hollowed out city, a sparsely populated and shuttered street, and drug criminals hiding in the ruins and moving around stealthily. When the city becomes dilapidated, people's hearts also become dilapidated.

The main character, Nick, is trying to build a family and carry out his duties as a police officer with a sense of justice. The movie realistically captures his "work" and "family". After fighting a violent crime, he returns home exhausted, hugs his wife and baby, and returns to being a father. But his wife is worried that Nick has returned to his dangerous job. Even though he is troubled by the conflict between him and his wife, Nick cannot help but find out the truth behind the death of the investigator with whom he was also a ``comrade''. Jason Patric, who plays Nick, had his breakthrough roles in `` Sleepers '' (1996) and `` Speed ​​2 '' (1997), and had solidified his position as a talented actor by the time this film was filmed.

The other main character, Henry, is an old-fashioned, passionate detective. In particular, he expresses his anger directly at criminals who abuse children. He seems to be on edge, having lost his wife and been exposed to many gruesome crime scenes. This danger accelerates Nick's suspicions, ``Does he actually know the truth behind the incident?'' and adds to the thrill. He was played by Ray Liotta, who is best known for his roles in `` Field of Dreams '' (1989) and `` Goodfellas '' (1990). He gains weight and grows a beard to express Henry's intimidating aura, and also shows off his personality and emotional outbursts. Liotta sadly passed away in May 2022, but this work can be said to be one of his masterpieces.
