what does it look like?

In his brilliantly scripted masterpiece, Little Children (2006), Todd Field portrays a man who has been in prison for sex crimes returning to the town. Naturally, the residents are terrified of the man. Flyers with his face are posted all over the town, and graffiti with the word "devil" is written on the grounds of the man's house. One day, when the man enters the swimming pool, a huge commotion occurs when all the children are pulled out at once. The man lives with his mother. The mother loves her son dearly and sincerely hopes that he will be rehabilitated. Here too, Todd Field does not judge the man in black or white. He carefully extracts how the residents see the man, and what they are not seeing.

" Little Children " is a film in which the theme "how does it look?" is repeated in various patterns, from small levels such as trivial conversations between mom friends to larger levels such as the case of this man.

Lydia is a person who controls the theme of "how she appears" to the public through her own self-direction. There is a sign that Lydia will lose her balance. She meets Olga (Sophie Kauer), a young cellist. Olga's presence in this film is enormous. Lydia is irresistibly drawn to Olga, who is full of talent and has a fearless boldness. Although Lydia always maintains an elegant demeanor, the way she looks at Olga is almost like a predator stalking its prey. However, the innocent and wild Olga is not the type of woman who will be colored by the sophisticated Lydia. Rather, she seems indifferent.

Olga doesn't get along with the "personal self she wants to be seen as". The fear of losing control slowly corrodes Lydia's elegance from the inside, like a nightmare. As exemplified by the scene where she is frightened by a sound that she cannot hear, this film has the flavor of a psychological thriller in which the mind and body are destroyed by invisible forces. The music video for the concept album for this film, created by Hildur Gudnadottir, features extended nightmarish footage from the film, shot by Todd Field.
