A journey with the inner girl

It is said that early Barbie dolls came with story books that matched the doll's occupation. Some of the books included information on how to get a raise, travel guides, and even diet methods. However, once the doll is handed over to a child or an adult, each individual's story is freely shaped.

Greta Gerwig grew up with a mother who was skeptical of Barbie dolls. She has fond memories of creating stories and playing with the first Barbie doll she got. For Greta Gerwig, creating Barbie was probably a way to return to her childhood of playing alone. Greta Gerwig connects the creation of all her works to her childhood.

Discovering your inner girl. I absolutely love the little moments of silence that suddenly appear in Barbie. Barbie talks to an old woman sitting on a bench in the real world. Barbie's reaction to seeing an elderly woman for perhaps the first time in her life is incredibly gentle. Barbie seems quietly impressed by the high self-esteem of the old woman who was once a young girl.

Greta Gerwig probably had great intentions in making a movie with such a clear Arrival. Margot Robbie probably feels the same way. She says she wanted to incorporate criticism as well as praise for Barbie dolls, but she didn't want to create a piece that Mattel wouldn't approve of. ``Barbie'' seems to hold hope for the future not only of adult women and men, but also of children living in this world today. The adult you thought you wanted to be when you were a child is who you really are. I hope they don't forget that self-awareness even when they become adults.

Lastly, I would like to share one of my favorite quotes by Greta Gerwig. Greta Gerwig grapples with the contradictions of being who she wants to be in her raucous blockbuster Barbie.

“When we walk down the street, we are always walking with who we were when we were little. We are always merging who we wanted to be with who we are now.” (Greta Gerwig)* Four
