1920s Hollywood is a place where all dreams come true. Jack, a huge silent film star, is the star of the movie industry's lavish parties that take place every night. At the venue, Nelly, a new actress who dreams of becoming a big star, and Manny, a young man who dreams of making movies, have a fateful encounter and begin to communicate. Fearless and free-spirited, Nelly captivates those around her with her special brilliance and runs up the path to stardom. Manny also takes a step forward in the film industry as Jack's assistant. However, this was a turbulent time when silent films were transitioning to talkies. The revolution in the film industry becomes a big wave, and the fate of each person is involved. What will be the end of the dreams of the three people?

A life where everything is a climax

A romance that makes you let go of all the success you've worked so hard to achieve. A life that bursts and disappears like a soap bubble. Damien Chazelle's ``Babylon'' (22) depicts the rapid rise and fall of the lives of screen angels fueled by a fever-like exhilaration. The characters in this work repeat their final parties because they know that their existence will eventually disappear. As if everything is the climax of life. The Roaring Twenties. A frenzied party colored in golden glitter. Welcome to shit-filled, vomit-covered Hollywood!

The opening scene, in which the elephants prepared for the party are loaded onto a truck and transported, is a good example of the key tone of this film, which is simultaneously saturated with darkness. The truck can no longer bear the weight and heads backwards down the slope. The Mule desperately supports the truck. The next moment, a large amount of elephant dung is released, and not only the characters but also the camera lens are covered in shit. The crazy extravagance of having an elephant for the party and shit stuck in the lens. The behind-the-scenes of the world of showbiz, which is so depressing that it makes you feel nauseous. A glittering life amidst vomit. A contract of immortality promised on screen. As if they were paying for a devil's pact, they rush through life destructively at an explosive speed. How tragic and how wonderful it was. A movie that loves excess. Damien Chazelle pours endless love into the imperfections of the stars of this era.

The film's stunning score, by Justin Hurwitz, echoes the same themes in different arrangements. In scenes where sentimentality bleeds through, the sound is melancholic. When adding Latin rhythms, the sound becomes ferocious and wild. And this main theme is sometimes accompanied by a song. It is an attempt to express Damien Chazelle's beloved jazz through film, in the sense that the sound changes depending on the situation at the time, and each sound will remain in your heart forever. It almost breaks my heart.
