It also sparked a global crème brûlée craze.

The large number of characters with strong personalities and small episodes that are thrown at it may seem chaotic at first glance, but the true essence of "Amélie" is the fun of peeking into the corners of a toy box or an amusement park. Starting with Amélie's parents as a child, the characters that appear one after another, including the employees of the cafe where she works (even the dog), are introduced by their "likes" and "dislikes." Each of these likes and dislikes is a little extreme, but they are preferences that make you think, "I could imagine a person like that," and the play is brilliant in that it instantly conveys the characters.

Incidentally, Amélie's hobbies are "looking at the faces of people watching movies (at the cinema)," "putting her hands in bean bags," "smashing the burnt bits of crème brûlée," "draining water on the Canal Saint-Martin," etc. Her actions, depicted alongside everyday Parisian scenes, seem strangely "chic." In fact, the success of this film caused a worldwide boom in crème brûlée. Incidentally, Audrey Tautou, who plays Amélie, is unable to drain water, so the splashing water in the scene was added using CG.

Café des Deux Moulins, where Amélie works, became an iconic filming location, attracting people from all over the world who saw the movie. The reaction was so great that the chairs outside the café were replaced after the film was released to prevent them from being stolen. The gnomes (fairy figurines) that appear in the film were owned by the owner of the café, but were taken away due to the popularity of the film. In addition to the café, Amélie was filmed on many locations, including Notre Dame Cathedral, Montmartre, Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est, and the metro, but the footage exudes a clean, orderly beauty. The city of Paris is generally dirty, so the film crew was busy clearing out all the trash and wiping off graffiti from the walls.

Although the inorganic cleanliness of the film makes it look like a futuristic landscape, the items incorporated therein have a nostalgic feel, and this strange balance is also reminiscent of the previous film, ` `The Lost Children, '' but ``Amélie'' has shifted that balance to a more ``stylish'' feel, which has captured the hearts of many audiences.
