That “incident” happened in 1986.
Jim Jarmusch's ``Stranger Than Paradise,'' which was released in a single theater at the Subaru Theater in Yurakucho, Tokyo on April 19, 1986, was an ``incident''...It may sound like an exaggeration, but young movie fans... This was definitely the case between them. At the time, even among those around me who had just entered university, I remember hearing the voices of those around me getting louder and louder every day. A month after its release, I visited the Subaru Theater, and the venue was nearly full. Looking back, I think that it was a happy movie experience for me to be able to empathize with so many other viewers in the laughter and the sadness of the ending.
The film arrived in Japan with the honor of winning the Camera d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, and for young movie fans at the time, it was like a textbook on film. Many people have become familiar with the names of master filmmakers such as Yasujiro Ozu and Nicholas Ray through this film, and this film is supported not only by the directors Jarmusch paid homage to, but also by many other talents. Let's sort it out here.
"Stranger Than Paradise" (C) 1984 Cinethesia Productions Inc.
``Stranger Than Paradise'' originally began as a 30-minute short film that Jarmusch shot in 1982. This is the story of Willy, a playboy living in New York, who ends up taking care of his teenage cousin Eva from Hungary for a short period of time, until they part ways. The person who inspired him to create this short story was Wim Wenders, known for works such as `` Wings of Desire '' (1987). In 1980, Wenders, who had completed `` The Knicks Movie' ' with Nicholas Ray, recognized the talent of Jarmusch, who had worked as a production assistant on the film, and gave him about 40 minutes of extra film. Jarmusch borrowed equipment from him and completed the short film in two days. It was screened at film festivals and received a great response.
