' Out of Sight' The Elmore Leonard-based crime comedy that saved Steven Soderbergh's career
2019.09.02
What ``Out of Sight'' left behind on the film industry
The completed film, Out of Sight, received rave reviews from critics, but was not a huge hit at the box office. However, it has won numerous film awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay (Scott Frank) at the National Book Critics Circle Awards, and Best Picture and Best Screenplay at the Boston Critics Circle Awards. (Nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Editing) Soderbergh's treatment changed dramatically, from a problem child with art obscurity to a director who was once again attracting attention in the industry.
Jersey Films, the producer, seemed to be very satisfied with Soderbergh's work, and `` Erin Brockovich '' (2000), in which he collaborated with Soderbergh again, was a huge hit. At the Academy Awards that year, Soderbergh's two films, Traffic (2000) and Erin Brockovich, achieved the feat of being nominated for Best Picture and Best Director at the same time, and Soderbergh won Best Director for Traffic. Julia Roberts won Best Actress for Erin Brockovich. Soderbergh's time has finally arrived.
As I wrote earlier, George Clooney had been cast as the lead in Out of Sight even before Soderbergh's participation. However, the two immediately hit it off, and in 2000 they jointly founded the film production company Section Eight (disbanded in 2006). Section Eight not only served as a base for Soderbergh and Clooney, who made his directorial debut, but also provided support for Christopher Nolan and the Russo brothers in `` Avengers: Endgame '' (2019). We achieved remarkable results in this regard. This can also be said to be one of the achievements of ``Out of Sight''.
As mentioned at the beginning, Out of Sight saved Soderbergh's career. Soderbergh and his group gained momentum and had a huge influence on Hollywood from the 2000s onwards, changing the course of the industry, but that is another story, so I will end this manuscript here. I want to.
