Hitchcock's culminating entertainment masterpiece
I gave it a rather pretentious title, but I don't mean to show off my knowledge of Hitchcock. In fact, I don't know too much about Hitchcock. Therefore, while I still have time to recover, I wanted to unravel as much as possible about the world that this film god has created. Of course, this book is a great companion for viewing. The famous book ``The Art of Cinema'' is written in the form of a conversation between Hitchcock and Truffaut (more information on the influence of this book can be found in the documentary film `` Hitchcock/Truffaut '' (15)).
However, the key is which film to choose first. So I asked a fellow filmmaker who is knowledgeable about Hitchcock for a recommended introductory film, and the first one he mentioned was North by Northwest(1959). It is one of the top five most popular films among Hitchcock's works, and is a representative entertainment film of the 1950s. It is also said to be a culmination of his American period.
Once you start watching this... you can't stop. Too interesting. Although it is a classic made 60 years ago, its vividness and impact are several steps above modern films. At the beginning, with the title background by Saul Bass and the folding music of Bernard Herrmann, a large number of people, people, people are ejected from the buildings of New York. As soon as I spotted the main character, Cary Grant, I was drawn into his comical and charming charm. The film's ultimate chase begins when a ``mistake'' occurs between him and George Caplan at the hotel where he takes a taxi. This preparation for battle is established within the first 10 minutes, and it is easy to see how Hitchcock cuts out the clutter and quickly draws the audience into the mainstream.
