An unfinished puzzle called a movie

What exactly was I watching? It's like I can't understand it. Mulholland Drive(2001) is such a movie. To put it in clichéd terms, this movie is cult. Discontinuous stories do not converge until the end. They are simply left unchecked and thrown around. It's like a puzzle, so to speak, and all you can do is put it together step by step. How you put it together is up to you, and everything is left up to the viewer. There is no correct combination. It's a very difficult movie.

This movie is extremely troubling. Even if I want to talk about it, where should I start? I have no idea. This is because this is both “reality”, “dream”, and “fantasy”. ``Mulholland Drive'' is the distillation of these factors into a single work and a single story. It's more like abstract art than a movie. The video feels like a sneak peek into the mind of director David Lynch. There is a strangeness to it, as if the director's ideas were projected onto the screen as discontinuous images. In other words, this movie is unfinished. The audience pieces together the fragments of ideas. In this way, the puzzle called a movie is completed.

"Mulholland Drive" trailer

The title ``Mulholland Drive'' is a mountain pass north of Los Angeles that actually exists in the movie capital of Hollywood. The road winds along the ridgeline, passing through the Hollywood Hills, where people from the showbiz world gather, and ending in Woodland Hills on the west side. This road, which has one lane in each direction, is also famous as a hot spot for runners, and is a gathering place for speed enthusiasts looking for a thrill. Therefore, it is important to strictly adhere to the "No Stopping Any Time."Signs. Otherwise, accidents will not be avoided.

Although this road is fraught with danger, it also has another side that makes you want to drive on it. It's a night view. The night view of Los Angeles spreading out below is so beautiful that it seems to swallow everything up. Many people who pass by Mulholland Drive seek out this night view. However, it is. Contrary to its outward beauty, there is a deep darkness lurking in this city.

At first glance, this movie seems to be an unstructured story, but once these puzzles are completed, the vanity of Hollywood comes to light. The story of this strange story has been continued in cult works such as `` Under the Silver Lake '' (2018) in recent years.
