There is everything about the author in his first work.

Despite this famous thesis being quoted everywhere, the exact source is unknown (for example, Orson Welles said, ``Everything you need to know about a filmmaker can be found in his first film.'') Literary critic Katsuichiro Kamei wrote, ``A writer matures toward his maiden work.'' In any case, it may be rare to find a filmmaker who was as neatly equipped with ``everything an author has to offer in his debut work'' as Jim Jarmusch. In other words, he has continued his nearly 40-year career without changing much.

His first important work was 1980's "Permanent Vacation ." It was shot on 16mm film as The Graduate film for New York University's Graduate School of Film Studies, before `` Stranger Than Paradise '' (1984), which is generally known as his debut film. The film has a low budget of $12,000, but it also includes a very Jarmusch-like bonus story about how he was unable to The Graduate from graduate school because he spent his tuition and scholarship money on production costs.

"Permanent Vacation" preview

First of all, the title ``Eternal Vacation'' suddenly seems to accurately self-define ``everything about the writer.'' The main character is a young wanderer, 16-year-old Aloysius Parker, also known as Allie. The actor played is Chris Parker, who was 15 years old at the time and was an amateur delinquent who was actually living a rootless life. He appears in a 50's style, including a Pombadour hairstyle, and introduces himself in this way in his monologue at the beginning of the movie.

"My name is Aloysius Christopher Parker. If I have a son, I'm going to name him Charles Christopher Parker. Kind of like Charlie Parker."

Needless to say, Charlie Parker (born 1920 - died 1955) was a legendary jazz musician whose short life was depicted in the movie Bird (1988, directed by Clint Eastwood). Aloysius is said to be a name chosen by Chris for the role, but the name is clearly reminiscent of the French fantasy poet Aloysius Bertrand (born 1807 - died 1841). Although he remained anonymous during his lifetime, his posthumous collection of poems `` Gaspard de la Nuit '' was highly acclaimed after his death and influenced Baudelaire and André Breton.

From this opening, which casually mentions two great cultural heroes who both died young in their 30s, Jarmusch's habit of arrogant quotation, which continues to this day, explodes.
