Flannel shirt “Somewhere”

Sofia Coppola, the daughter of master director Francis Ford Coppola, created `` Somewhere '' (10) while thinking about her own days as a lonely studio kid. Coppola, who took decorative beauty to its limits in her previous film `` Marie Antoinette '' (2006), focuses on a more minimal and private world in ``Somewhere''. Stephen Dorff plays the main character, Marco, who lives at the Chateau Marmont, a hotel frequented by Hollywood celebrities, and is reminiscent of Sophia's father, Francis. Sophia had been imagining Dorff since she was writing the script. Coppola's daughter Cleo, played by Elle Fanning, was modeled after a friend of Coppola's who was also a studio kid.

What is noteworthy is that Marco maintains a casual style that is far from that of a celebrity. That seems to be Sophia's aim, and she has prepared a total of 150 pairs of jeans for Dorf, from Acne and APC to Japanese denim brands. As expected, Sophia is an expert on Japan. In the end, Dorff chose vintage Levi's. And what he often wears is a checked flannel shirt, or flannel shirt for short.

The flannel shirt, which became widely known as a fashion item in the 1970s, was originally a fabric that was useful as an outdoor and work item. Nowadays, thin ones made of synthetic fibers are also popular, and the one Dorff wears in the movie is a thin one. Marco is lying on a hotel bed, wearing a flannel shirt over a white T-shirt, blue Levi jeans, and boots. His sense of ennui is incredible. It is also a symbol of the atmosphere that dominates the showbiz world, which the girl glimpsed.

In fact, Stephen Dorff loves vintage jeans and T-shirts in his personal life, and is a die-hard casual fan who wears denim tops and bottoms even on official occasions. Perhaps that's why all the clothes that appear in the movie look like personal belongings. In that sense, the role of Marco may have been suitable for him.
