It's all about "making quality movies"

Q: It was a big hit, and you won an Oscar and the highest honor, but what kind of movies do you want to make in the future?

Wang: It's the ultimate honor, so it's all downhill from here (lol). As a producer, by winning the Best Picture award, I feel liberated from the feeling of having to chase something. But this isn't the end, and I'm looking forward to the future. We are now in a situation where we can make what we want to make, but ``EvEv~'' was not a movie we made with Academy Awards in mind, and that is not our goal going forward. Our north star is simply to make high-quality films.

Also, up until now, I have been referred to as a ``creative producer'' and ``a rapidly growing producer,'' but from now on I think I will be referred to as a ``producer.'' I feel grateful and humbled for that. It is difficult for filmmakers whose names are not known to even Contact actors, but now it is possible to meet actors directly without going through an agent. I'm also happy that making this work opened many doors for me.

Q: Please tell us about the film directors and films that have influenced you.

Wang: Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry, Jordan Peele, Park Chan-wook, Bong Joon-ho, there are so many. I also like the Japanese movie `` Tandopo '' (1985). I also like books, and I was influenced by Dostoyevsky and Stein Beck.

The producer has been working with director duo Daniels for many years. Starting with music video production, he has produced numerous award-winning music videos for Bob Dylan, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and more. He then turned to filmmaking with Daniels' ``Swiss Army Man'' in 2015, which premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and won the US Dramatic Directing Award. Wang has produced five other films with A24, including Everything Everywhere All At Once, which won seven awards at the 2023 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and is A24's highest-grossing film of all time. was recorded.
