Jumanji: The Next Level

It's been two years since they shouted "Jumanji~~~~~~!!!!!!" and dumped the gem into the Jaguar statue, clearing The Game. Spencer, Martha, Fridge, and Bethany, who were high school students at the time, have all followed their own paths and are now college students. However, Spencer can't forget the excitement of that time and starts to secretly repair Jumanji, which he had supposedly destroyed. At that moment, he is sucked into The Game again. The three log into Jumanji again to rescue Spencer. However, the broken world of The Game is bugged, and for some reason Spencer's grandfather and friends are also in Jumanji!?!? There are new stages added, not only jungles, but also deserts and icebergs, and the difficulty has increased! Jumanji has become a completely impossible game. However, there are only three lives to use. The only way to return to the real world alive is to clear The Game!!!!!! "All must-win!"

A sequel that beautifully updates its predecessor

It's well done. I was honestly impressed. What a refreshing and clever sequel. It's a heretical classic film that goes even further than the original, which was full of ideas.

" Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle " (2017) is a bold adaptation of the classic film " Jumanji " (1995), which became a huge hit, grossing over $960 million at the box office worldwide. It stunned movie fans by updating the premise of a board The Game world becoming reality to one in which the characters enter the world of a video The Game, and it made the whole world laugh by including ideas such as "having The Rock play a high school student."

Not only that, but the Arrival of "self-affirmation" as a coming-of-age story is depicted through the medium of "Avatar(The Game characters)," giving it a modern flavor that will make you tear up and empathize with the characters. There are many reboots (or sequels) that change the setting to a modern one, but "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" is one of the few successful examples.

Therefore, there were worries about making more sequels. There are countless movies that have failed by trying to make a profit. Moreover, while "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" was certainly high quality, it is also true that it felt like a punch line. Would their greediness end up tarnishing the success of the previous film? Such arrogant worries were easily blown away.

"Jumanji: The Next Level" is a hilariously brilliant and surprisingly well-crafted sequel. There is no sense of patchwork or contrivedness, as if they made a sequel because it was a hit, and it is naturally (yet seamlessly) connected. I would like to applaud the director and screenwriter team for showing new possibilities while following the format of the previous film.

The audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, America's largest review site, is 87%, a number comparable to the previous film. It was released in China and over a dozen other countries in the week of December 6th, and grossed approximately $52 million in one week at the box office worldwide. Although its performance in China was lower than the previous film, it can be said that the nature of the film, which at first glance appears to be the same as the previous one (although the content has evolved), has been thoroughly considered. It was then released in China, where it made $61 million, far exceeding the previous film, and debuted at number one. As of December 16th, the total gross worldwide has reached $212 million.
