Gimmick of “conflict” using “imaginary friends”

Instead of denying it outright, saying, "War is evil!", stop and think about it. Then, search for the correct answer. ``Jojo Rabbit'' once again disassembles and reassembles the ``justice'' within us. Although it is peppered with solid humor and cynical gags typical of director Waititi, the way he reconsiders it from a child's point of view is truly sincere and noble.

The symbol of this is the relationship between Jojo and Elsa. When he finds Elsa, he chooses to negotiate instead of reporting her. Even though Hitler in his head was telling him to burn down the whole house. Jojo has a strong sense of compassion that she inherited from her kind mother, and even though she is called a ``coward,'' she does not like to resort to violence. He first learns about Elsa and, by extension, the Jews, and then tries to think about it. It is beautiful to see him not doing this consciously, but as his own ``instinct'' and trying to find a gentler path. You can feel that director Waititi is burdening him with "hope".

This element is clearly shown in the interaction between Jojo and Hitler. The Hitler inside him can be said to be a violent alter ego, and the two constantly talk and disagree. And as the relationship between Jojo and Elsa deepens, the relationship between Jojo and Hitler deteriorates. Hitler yells, ``All Jews are monsters,'' and Jojo retorts, ``I used to think so, but she's a nice person and normal.'' This strange relationship is, so to speak, a conflict between peace and war, and a battle between the ``universal humanity'' that exists within one boy and the ``thoughts created by the times.''

The deterioration of relations with Hitler means that Jojo, who grew up in an abnormal era, begins to doubt his own "common sense". This is linked to the historical background of Germany's apparent defeat, and the ``end'' of the war that will soon arrive is spelled out in various shades. How will Jojo deal with his inner Hitler? What it means to live in a time of war, and what it means to end the war. The use of the gimmick of imaginary friends to make the boy question the pros and cons of war in his mind is a brilliant approach that has never been seen before.

The gap breaks down the unwritten rules of war movies. Director Waititi's irreverent and courageous style shines a particularly dazzling light on the true nature of war.
