The physical talent we have been blessed with easily crosses borders.
It would be natural for an artist who expresses something to move somewhere else in this world in search of a place where their work will be accepted, or a place where it is easier to express their work.
Particularly in fields where language barriers are less of a problem, such as art, music, and performing arts, many artists are moving from their hometowns to foreign countries to explore new forms of expression. ``POLINA DANCES ME'' depicts this effortless ``crossing of borders'' in the field of performing arts.
This work is unique in that it is based on a `` Bande Dessinée' ' (French graphic novel = comic book), and the main character, Polina, a Russian girl, is a ballerina of her country's prestigious Bolshoi Ballet. She trains hard to achieve this goal, but after passing an audition, she sees her future in contemporary dance rather than classical ballet. The story depicts her leaving Russia and moving to the south of France and Belgium, pursuing the dance that she truly wants to express.

When you watch the work, you may be surprised at how freely Polina moves in search of a place for her activities. Of course, it also depicts episodes of her parents opposing her decision, but this work seems to convey that it is only by having a strong belief in choosing one's own future that one can grow as an artist. This year (2017), the documentary film `` Dancer Sergei Polunin - The World's Most Graceful Beast '', which became a hot topic among dance fans, depicts Polunin, a rare dancer, leaving his homeland of Ukraine to join the Royal Ballet. It depicts him changing his activities and wandering in search of more freedom.
The success of Japanese dancers overseas is reported daily in the news, and talents such as Tetsuya Kumakawa and Miyako Yoshida, who rose to the position of principal (highest-ranking dancer) at the Royal Ballet, could not have blossomed in their home country. Maybe it wasn't.
``POLINA DANCES ME'' vividly expresses the artist's goal to achieve through movement.
