The opening begins with a “chilling” performance

From here, let's introduce the contents of "Contagion" in detail.

At the beginning, I said, ``The situation is very similar to the current situation when we are exposed to the new coronavirus,'' and this film is sure to give viewers a shudder from the moment it begins. The sound of someone coughing echoed across the pitch-black screen. Although we are currently being advised to refrain from going out unless necessary, there are still opportunities to go out to buy food and daily necessities, or to run errands that cannot be avoided.

Do you find yourself becoming hypersensitive to other people's coughs and sneezes? ``Contagion,'' which begins with a ``cough'' that has become a kind of traumatic trigger, sends chilling ripples through our hearts within the first second.

Director Soderbergh's terrifying production is far from over. In the following cuts, there is an unusual focus on the characters' hands and mouths. This is also a rather frightening composition for us today.

What the infected person touched, what they ate, and where that food was transported... There is no gap in the visual expression that visualizes the ``trajectory'' of the virus, staring at the handrails, cups, and food on plates. At the same time, I am amazed at the creators' foresight in linking it to the current situation.

After that, people suddenly died in various places such as Hong Kong, America, England, and Japan. The new virus depicted in this work has a mortality rate of about 25-30%, but it progresses at an alarmingly fast rate. Scenes that will give you goosebumps include the depiction of the bereaved family falling ill and dying while transporting the remains of an infected person by bus, and the scene where Beth (Paltrow), the infected wife, dies in the hospital, and her son also dies on the way home. This is the tragic fate of the main character, Mitch (Damon). When Mitch is told of his wife's death, his confused lines such as ``Can I see my wife?'' and ``I was at home a while ago'' clearly show that his mind is not able to catch up with the situation.

I wrote about the editing earlier, but looking at the overall development of the film, it's shocking that his wife and child die of illness less than 10 minutes into the film (by the way, after that, Mitch discovers that his wife was having an affair on a business trip). (He learns of this and falls into further despair).

Paltrow gained worldwide popularity as the beautiful secretary Potts in the Iron Man series, but in this film, she plays a role that conveys the horrors of the virus, where she becomes dizzy, bubbles and convulses, her pupils dilate, and becomes a completely different person. He is showing off his fierce acting skills, such as when he becomes like this. I'm surprised that she finished filming her role in just three days (by the way, she appeared in this film basically without any pay).

After watching 1/10th to 1/9th of the movie, or about 15 minutes, the chilling feeling that runs down your spine turns into ``certainty''. The story so far takes place just before the current situation we find ourselves in, before each country declared a state of emergency. In other words, from that point forward, the situation will be the same as ours. And “beyond” too…. I want you to be prepared and watch the sequel.
