Real-time feeling that is hard to believe for a movie made 9 years ago
The spread of the new coronavirus continues unabated. As of April 4, the number of infected people worldwide has exceeded 1.06 million, and the death toll has exceeded 50,000. The number of new infections per day in Tokyo has risen to about 120. The movie industry has been hit hard by the postponement of release, postponement or cancellation of production. At this stage, there is no clear end in sight.
Meanwhile, one movie is attracting attention. The germ panic movie ``Contagion'' (2011) seems to have foreseen this situation.
This work, which bears the name "Contagion," is based on the catchphrase from its home country, "Nothing spreads like fear," as an unknown virus spreads all over the world, and everyday life is accelerated. The story depicts the collapse of the earth, based on thorough chemical research. This is exactly the kind of content that overlaps with the ``now, this moment'' in which we live.

“Contagion” preview
``Contagion'' is directed by Steven Soderbergh and stars Matt Damon, Jude Law, Laurence Fishburne, Marion Cotillard, Kate Winslet, and Gwyneth Paltrow. The screenplay was written by Scott Z. Burns, who is known for producing `` The Truth '' (2006) and is currently working on ``No Time to Die'' (2020).
Ironically, as the effects of the new coronavirus spread, it has regained popularity. At the time of its theatrical release, the worldwide box office revenue was over 135 million dollars, and the box office revenue in Japan was about 368 million yen, making it a hit, but as of April 4th, about nine years later, it was released on iTunes. In the rental ranking, this work is ranked 7th. It also ranks 9th in Japan. This number is clearly abnormal since most of the top works are new or on sale. On the same day, it jumped to number one on Netflix Japan's movie rankings. It was also the most-watched title on HBO for two weeks in a row. These can be said to be one indicator of the attention level of this work.
It is said that ``art predicts reality,'' but the frightening thing about ``Contagion'' is that it depicts the situation we are currently facing nine years ago. Not only that, this work also shows us the ``risks'' that may occur in the future.
How should we spend our days now? In order to prevent reality from following the same fate as the movie, I would like people to learn from this movie and take precautions by raising their awareness.
