The challenge of “Drawing the process of completing an anime”

When the popular manga `` Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba '' was made into an anime, its graceful movements gained explosive popularity, and ``animation'' is an important criterion in modern anime. This can be said to be a point that many anime fans pay attention to when watching a work.

However, "Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!' is extremely unique in this element of 'illustration'. This is because this work is "an anime that makes anime."

It is roughly divided into three parts: (1) "Everyday life of Asakusa and others," (2) "Imaginary world of Asakusa and Mizusaki," and (3) "Anime world created in the play." In (2) and (3), rough sketches, storyboards, etc. It is a mixture of expressions such as original drawings (instructions for camera movement and effects are also written, and the production team's attention to detail shines through). This means that the ``partially completed'' drawings of the characters in the play will be introduced at key points.

The parts that were white backgrounds in the original work have been clearly drawn, and original elements have been added in detail. Additionally, Asakusa and Mizusaki use pencils and pen tablets to ``draw'' pictures, and it can be said that they are completing extremely difficult missions.

There are episodes that compare the completed version with those without SE (sound effects), and scenes that compare how the impression changes by changing the music, and by bringing elements of the "production process" into the work itself, It has a visual trick that allows you to enjoy it in multiple layers. In other words, ``Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!' has reached the point where it is not possible to judge based on the superficial quality of the drawings, placing emphasis on the 'completeness' of the screen.

It means intentionally creating and disclosing an unfinished state. It may seem like a meta element, but in reality it's almost like making two anime series. It's already extremely complex with just three layers, ①, ②, and ③, and the way it's drawn changes with all of them, so the amount of information and work involved in this work is frightening to imagine. It's amazing how they were able to create such a masterpiece. I am humbled by the painstaking efforts of director Yuasa and the creators of Science SARU, who produced the animation.

The anime ``Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!'' consists of 12 episodes. ', you can feel the design of the director and animators in every episode, and it makes you shiver, but at the same time, what you can almost feel is the passion of the creators, which also applies to the characters in the movie. In the next and final section, I would like to introduce the ``creator's life'' that pervades this work.
