“Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” Synopsis

In the late 19th century in the West, two robbers, Butch and Sundance, live a free-spirited life, robbing banks over and over again. However, in the era of modernization, their way of life was too old-fashioned. In search of a new dream, he heads to Bolivia in South America, but...

From the late 1960s to the mid-70s, there was a movement that took Hollywood by storm. This is what is commonly called "American New Cinema." After the end of the Vietnam War, the so-called anti-hero films that emerged in a way that reflected the refracted feelings of the American people captured the hearts of people who had no choice but to become skeptical about the state of the nation. " Bonnie and Clyde " (67), " The Graduate " (67), " Easy Rider " (69), " Midnight Cowboy " (69), " M*A*S*H " (70) , and `` Five Easy Pieces '' (1970) are among his representative works.

Works that do not fit within the framework of American New Cinema

``Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid'' (69) is also categorized as ``American New Cinema,'' but it is a little unique in that it has many other hidden elements. It's a belated Western set in the West, where the Wild West is coming to an end, and it's a crime-fighting drama about Butch and Sundance, who are casually engaged in a heist business in that era, and most importantly, they're trying to live up to their dreams despite their years. It's also a painful coming-of-age movie about men who chase after their dreams. It began with an interest held by screenwriter William Goldman.

“Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” Preview

Goldman, a novelist and playwright who won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for this film and ``All the All the President's Men '' (1976), began researching the main characters, Butch and Sundance, a pair of thieves. It was the late 1950s. From then on, until he dropped the script, he became fascinated by the life the two lived for eight years. Butch Cassity, real name Robert LeRoy Parker, was originally a cattle farmer, but one day he was influenced by an outlaw he met, Mike Cassidy, and adopted his family name. It is said that his first name was Butch because he was making a living in the meat butchering industry at the time. In this way, Butch is reborn as a member of the ``The Wild Bunch,'' an outlaw group that has carved out its name in the history of western development, forming a gang based in the Rocky Mountains and repeatedly robbing banks, which will later be made into a movie.
