Meanwhile, Winona Ryder, who appeared in Tim Burton's `` Edward Scissorhands '' (1990) and other films, was a young actress who was attracting attention at the time, and she plays the role of the boyish driver.

The driver is scouted by a Hollywood movie actress, but she declines the offer as she aims to become a car mechanic. This seemed to be a reflection of Jarmusch's own feelings as he made his own way in the independent film industry, rather than making major films in Hollywood.
