actors from all over the world
The first episode of ``Night on Earth'' is set in Los Angeles, but he initially thought it would be a story about two men. However, the actor they had originally envisioned for the role of the driver was no longer available, and a change had to be made.
Around that time, I happened to speak with two actresses, unrelated to casting issues. One was Gena Rowlands and the other was Winona Ryder. When we talked about the project in progress, we both became interested in the work. So I suddenly started thinking about having them appear in the movie, and changed the story to have two women as the main characters.
For Jarmusch, who loves John Cassavetes films, Gena Rowlands, who is the muse of Cassavetes films, is one of his favorite actresses. She plays the role of a scout woman in the movie. Meanwhile, Winona Ryder, who appeared in Tim Burton's `` Edward Scissorhands '' (1990) and other films, was a young actress who was attracting attention at the time, and she plays the role of the boyish driver.

The driver is scouted by a Hollywood movie actress, but she declines the offer as she aims to become a car mechanic. This seemed to be a reflection of Jarmusch's own feelings as he made his own way in the independent film industry, rather than making major films in Hollywood. (I am who I am), which is a favorite phrase of the main character of the manga ``Hopai.''
Other than this episode, there are many characters that were written in during the scenario stage, including Rosie Perez in the New York version, Béatrice Dalle and Isaac de Bancollet in the Paris version, Roberto Benigni in the Rome version, and Matti in the Finland version. - The three Finnish actors, including Peronpaa (there are four characters, but he mostly sleeps), were written with actors in mind from the beginning.
"So, 70% of the movie was already completed in my head before I started shooting. The remaining 30% was determined by the shooting conditions." (Sight and Sound, August 1992 issue) (From an interview)
As a result, a project was started in which unique actors from all over the world gathered to show a fragment of the world.
