Robert Kincaid as “The Last Cowboy”

No parents, no siblings, no family. National Geographic photographer Robert Kincaid, who travels around the world in an old pickup truck, can be described as an Eastwood-esque character.

``He is a completely lonely man who does not belong to any group. He cannot adapt to the society in which he lives and has spent most of his life traveling. Even when I met him, my inner loneliness was not satisfied.'' (Excerpt from the pamphlet)

As Eastwood says, he is a social outcast and a true Jack Reacher. In the original story, the points of view of Kincaid and Francesca alternated. One of the reasons this novel was loved not only by women but also by men was because it was designed to allow male readers to empathize with Kincaid by portraying Kincaid's background well.

However, in the script by Richard LaGravenese, the story is changed so that the children discover their mother's secret diary and the story of a past "fateful love" is told from Francesca's perspective. As a result, Kincaid's background became more abstract, and the story became more structured as a story about a mysterious man who appears out of nowhere and disappears everywhere.

“The Story of a Drifter”…Isn’t that exactly the kind of western he has worked on up until now? Kincaid himself goes so far as to define himself as "the last cowboy." The theme of the arrival and disappearance of strangers is directly connected to Eastwood's film themes.
