How did that legendary logo come about?
Anyone who knows "Ghostbusters" can probably instantly recall that catchy logo. For New Yorkers at the time, it may have been like an invitation to connect reality and fiction.
"No-Ghost" has even contributed to merchandising, and is probably the most effective logo design in the history of movies. I wonder how Big a mastermind was behind this, but surprisingly, the first sketch was done by a little-known artist who is also a motorcycle buddy of Dan Aykroyd.

His name is John Devakis. He is also said to have been involved in the early concept of the special vehicle Ecto-One that the Busters ride, and the Marshmallow Man. As for the logo, it was based on his original design, and associate producer and graphic artist Mike C. Gross made some modifications to it to create the current shape. When finalizing the design, he was apparently very careful to make sure it did not look like "Casper."
What's interesting is that Dan Aykroyd had prepared various sketches, including these logos, from the early stages of the concept. Therefore, the staff and cast were able to share the world view of the movie, which may seem absurd to an outsider, in a realistic and concrete way, not only in the script but also visually. Thus, the logo mark, which became the banner that the team aimed for from start to finish, continues to invite viewers into the world with its formidable power even now, more than 30 years after the movie's release.
