' Dances with Wolves': Academy Award-winning western that wasn't what we wanted

The story is set in the American West in the 1860s. John Dunbar (Kevin Costner), who became a hero despite being injured during the Civil War, wishes to be posted to a frontier outpost, saying, ``I want to see the vanishing frontier.'' While living a self-sufficient life in the wilderness as far as the eye can see, they eventually begin to interact with the neighboring Sioux tribe.
