The final work of an artist who continued to depict "fate"

` `Three Colors: Blue '' (1994), which follows ` `Three Colors: White' ' (1993) and ``Three Colors: Red'' (1994), marks the final installment of director Krzysztof Kieślowski's ``Tricolore trilogy.'' It is also the director's last work. ``Red Love'' is a fitting conclusion to the trilogy, and as the last film in Kieślowski's career, it can't help but feel inevitable.

This trilogy has themes of "freedom," "equality," and "fraternity." ``Blue Love'' depicts ``freedom from the spell of love (rebirth from memory),'' and ``White Love'' depicts ``Is there equality in love?'' Both are "stories about love." The word ``philanthropy'' is drawn based on this trend. ``Red Love'' has ``innocent love that encompasses everything'' as a major theme.

“Three Colors: Red” preview

The reason why this work is a suitable conclusion to the trilogy is that the final theme of the ``story about love'' is ``benevolence.'' Benevolence means loving all equally. “Everything” literally means everything, regardless of attributes or ideology. This is something that everyone needs at any time, and is necessary for deepening mutual understanding. The attitude of trying to understand and accept others will eventually lead to the growth of love. In other words, I believe that an attitude of benevolence is an act of watering down the seeds of ``love''.

In this film, such a love affair is played out between university student Valentine (Irene Jacob) and her husband Joseph (Jean-Louis Trintignant), a former judge. The two are of different ages and positions. The kind of love that develops between them will probably vary depending on the viewer.

The two meet through the presence of a dog. The story begins when Valentine runs over Joseph's dog with her car and injures it. Coincidence means a chance encounter. However, this is a work by director Kieślowski, who has continued to depict ``fate''. This encounter must be inevitable. ``Red Love,'' which depicts ``benevolence,'' is a perfect finale to the variations on ``Fate'' and ``Love'' found in the ``Tricolor Trilogy.''
