16th century writer Christopher Marlowe was also a vampire

Christopher Marlowe was born in the same year as Shakespeare (1564), but was recognized as a writer earlier than Shakespeare. However, he was stabbed to death at the age of 29 during an argument in a bar. Shakespeare then appeared in his place. In this film, " Hamlet " is written by Marlowe, not Shakespeare, but there is a strange theory in the literary world that Marlowe actually died, changed his name, and became Shakespeare. In Jarmusch's film, Marlowe becomes a vampire and lives for centuries.

The role of the rebellious writer Marlowe is played by John Hurt. Known for his Oscar nomination for Best Actor in The Elephant Man (1980), the renowned British actor is a graduate of the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He has also given impressive performances in leading roles in 1984 (1984), based on a George Orwell novel, as a real politician in Scandal (1989), and in supporting roles in the spy film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) in his later years. He has already appeared in a Jarmusch film, Dead Man (1995) (he passed away in 2017). The setting of this film as an elderly British genius writer suits Hart's appearance as an older man.

Tom Hiddleston plays Adam, who was called a "self-destructive romantic" by Hiddleston and who was said to have wanted him to be the protagonist of "Hamlet." He is generally known for his role as Loki in " Thor " (2011), but the director of this film, Kenneth Branagh, noticed his talent when he co-starred with Hiddleston in the TV series " Wallander " (2008-2010), and cast him in the role of Loki. Branagh is considered a leading figure in the stage direction and film adaptation of Shakespeare's works, so perhaps he too found something Shakespearean in Hiddleston.

According to Jarmusch's interview in "Time Out" mentioned above, the role of Adam was originally scheduled to go to Michael Fassbender, with Hiddleston as a stand-in. "Michael is an actor who acts instinctively, but Hiddleston has a more intellectual side to him. At first, I thought he wouldn't be a good fit for the role, but when I met him, I realized he was an actor with something wonderful. He's tall, graceful, and has a refined way with his movements," Jarmusch said. Hiddleston has a romantic atmosphere that Fassbender doesn't have, so he's perfect for the role of a romantic vampire. In the end, I think this casting was a good choice.

Featuring a cast of new and established British actors including Swinton, Hart and Hiddleston, this is a modern Dracula tale.
