What is Nolan's ambition to incorporate IMAX film shooting into the feature film ' The Dark Knight'?

Why IMAX?

I wrote that ``high image quality'' is a feature of IMAX, but the appeal of IMAX film screening (and IMAX's next-generation laser) cannot be explained simply by ``the images are beautiful.'' The biggest difference from movies shown in conventional theaters is that the aspect ratio is 1:1.43. It's about 25% wider at the top and bottom than a regular widescreen, making it more square-shaped. The images are projected onto a huge IMAX screen, which is said to be the size of an eight-story building, so you get the feeling that everything in your field of vision is covered with images. Simply put, you no longer care about the ``frame'' of movies. It is a visual experience that overturns the concept of a ``movie'' in the sense of viewing a framed work.

IMAX shooting itself is also used in many action blockbusters. A common use is to shoot high-quality materials for powerful action scenes, etc., with the aim of compositing CGI and other elements in post-production. Additionally, some directors, such as Paul Thomas Anderson, prefer IMAX for aesthetic reasons, seeking beautiful film textures.

However, Nolan wanted to bring the power of IMAX's original giant screen + ultra-high image quality + film texture into the movie. Nolan's IMAX concept has been around for 15 years, and he said he was interested in "the effect of quiet scenes" as well as flashy scenes. The first attempt full of such ambition was "The Dark Knight," and without the success of "The Dark Knight," "Dunkirk" might have been abandoned at the concept stage.
