“Dear Evan Hansen” synopsis
Evan Hansen has no friends at school and doesn't open up to his family. One day, a letter he had written to himself that started with "Dear Evan Hansen" was taken away by his classmate Connor. It was a letter containing Evan's ``voice in his heart'' that he didn't want anyone to see. Later, Evan is called by the principal and is informed that Connor has taken his own life. Connor's grieving parents find a letter in his possession and believe that their son and Evan were best friends. Not wanting to make them suffer any more, Evan unconsciously agrees to talk to them. Then, as prompted, the ``impossible memories with Connor'' that she shared touched the hearts and courage of not only her parents but those around her, and spread all over the world through SNS. Evan, who unexpectedly becomes popular, leads a fulfilling school life despite being confused, but a ``lie told out of compassion'' has a big impact on his life, and eventually things take an unexpected turn.
``Dear Evan Hansen,'' a masterpiece musical representing modern Broadway, has finally been made into a movie and will arrive in Japan. When the stage version opened on Broadway in 2016, it won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Original Song, and became a huge hit with tickets sold out every day locally. This is a long-awaited movie version for overseas theater fans who cannot easily go to the theater.
However, this work unexpectedly became a work with greater meaning than just a simple film adaptation. In March 2020, Broadway theaters were forced to close due to the coronavirus pandemic, and ``Dear Evan Hansen'' was also forced to suspend production. Coincidentally, planning for the film began in earnest three months later, in June 2020. This work began running as if to pick up the baton from the theater world, which had come to a halt due to the unprecedented pandemic.

The far north of modern musicals that discuss complex themes
"Dear Evan Hansen." The letter was written by Evan Hansen, a high school student suffering from anxiety and loneliness, as part of homework from his therapist. However, when Evan's eccentric classmate Connor steals the letter, Evan's fate begins to change dramatically.
The next time Evan saw the letter was when he was informed of Connor's suicide. Connor's mother, Cynthia, and stepfather, Larry, misunderstood the letter ``Dear Evan Hansen'' as a suicide note that Connor had written to Evan before he died. However, Evan was unable to reveal The Truth of the letter. Unsurprisingly, he even lies that he and Connor were best friends.

Unable to hold back his lies, Evan asks his classmate Jared to create an imaginary email with Connor and talk about imaginary memories. Cynthia and Larry are saved by his words, and Evan becomes close to Connor's sister Zoe, who he secretly has feelings for. Evan ends up giving a speech at Connor's memorial service as the deceased's best friend.
Evan's daily life takes a dramatic turn for the better as he gets caught up in an unimaginable situation. The only problem is the "lie" that started it all... Meanwhile, Evan's mother, Heidi, who is a single mother, becomes suspicious of Evan's change. Will Evan be able to reveal The Truth behind the “lie” that changed his life?
There are many reasons why the stage play ``Dear Evan Hansen'' attracted attention. There are many famous songs that color the story, Ben Platt's performance as Evan, and the power of a story that tells a complex theme even though it is a musical. ``The story of a main character who tells lies after lies'' is a standard story similar to William Shakespeare's `` Macbeth '', but this work uses that solid framework to explore the mental health and family issues faced by modern society, as well as the rise of social media. Elements such as light and darkness were clearly incorporated into the work.
