"Say 'sir' before and after you cum in my mouth!"

At the beginning of the movie, the recruit played by Matthew Modine and his companions are told by Instructor Hartman:

"I'm harsh, but I'm fair. I don't tolerate racism. I don't look down on black pigs, Jewish pigs, and savage pigs. They're all equally worthless!" (Movie: Full Metal Jacket, Lines /Mama quote from subtitles)

What are the conditions for a soldier to be useful in war? It's not bravery or outstanding killing techniques. It lacks "individuality". A homogenized group of pawns with no individuality, following orders and making no outstanding movements, would function ideally as an army. To that end, Sergeant Hartman tries to strip them of their individuality through words.

"Say 'sir' before and after you've fucked me in your mouth! Got it, maggot!" "Daddy's cum stains the sheets, and you're the scum left in mommy's crack! What hole did you grow up in? ” (Movie: Full Metal Jacket, quote from mom from dialogue/subtitles)

The role of Hartman, the lovey-dovey expletive, was originally intended to be played by another actor rather than R. Lee Ermey. Armey was a former Marine and participated in the production of various war films as a technical advisor. He was also an advisor on the set of ``Full Metal Jacket,'' but Kubrick fell in love with his abusive language and chose him to play Hartman.

"R. Lee Ermey showed up with about 150 pages of insults, some crazy stuff. For example, 'I don't like the name Lawrence. Lawrence is either a faggot or a sailor. That's my name.''

Furthermore, when Ermey forgot to say an abusive line during the performance, he made up for it with this ad-lib. ``A guy who just digs with a sickle and doesn't have the diplomatic protocol to help the other person dig.'' (Movie: Full Metal Jacket, quote from Mom's dialogue/subtitles)

When screenwriter Michael Herr heard this line, he was deeply moved. "It's an absolutely incredible, great line...so The Truth, so funny, so well phrased, and so true."
