A project for the disappointed Paul Newman

Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Paul Newman was the undisputed "money-making star" of Hollywood.

A young billiards player in ``The The Hustler '' (61), a hard-boiled private investigator in `` Moving Target '' (66), a Wild West robber in `` Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid '' (69), and `` The Sting '' (73). He is a legendary gambler in `` Slap Shot '' (1977), and a player and coach of a third-rate ice hockey team in ``Slap Shot'' (1977). No, it's just masterpieces and masterpieces that color American film history. Movie fans around the world were transfixed by his fearless mask, blue eyes, and Actors Studio method acting.

As if to punish the depressed Paul Newman, the movie ``Prelude to the Collapse of the World'' (1980), which had a budget of 20 million dollars, was a huge disappointment, earning only 1.7 million dollars at the box office. It was criticized as ``the worst panic movie ever made'', and Paul Newman himself made a parade of self-deprecating comments such as ``the movie was made entirely for money'' and ``he knew from day one that it was going to be a huge failure.'' His next police drama, ``Fort Apache: The Bronx'' (1981), also did not perform well at the box office, and his rosy career as an actor suddenly fell from grace.
