I knew you were a star
Patti Cake$
review
Synopsis
The main character, Patty, lives with her mother, a hard-drinking former rock singer, and her grandmother, who is in a wheelchair, in her down-home New Jersey home. The 23-year-old dreamed of achieving fame like her idol OZ, the rap god, and leaving her hometown. No money, no jobs, just from the looks of it, Dumbo! For Patty, who was often ridiculed for this, hip-hop music was the cry of her soul and a miraculous secret weapon that stirred the emotions of everyone who watched it. One day, Patty defeats her rival in a freestyle rap battle with her best rhyme, and gains the courage to try again for her dream of becoming a star, which she had almost given up on. Then, a Being There to participate in a formal audition comes to her.
