"The Innocents" synopsis

Ida, a 9-year-old girl who moves to a housing complex in a leafy suburb, and her older sister Anna, who is autistic and mute, become friends with Ben and Aisha, who live in the same housing complex. Ben has telekinesis that allows him to move small objects without touching them, and Aisha has the mysterious ability to share emotions and thoughts with Anna even when they are far apart. During their summer vacation, the four of them increase the strength of their magical psychic powers, out of sight of adults. However, what was once a fun time gradually escalates and turns into an irreversible madness, turning into a shocking summer vacation.

"Domu" motif woven into the story

The word innocent comes from the Latin word "innocere". From the combination of "nocent," which means "to hurt," and "in," which negates it, "not hurt" = "harmless." Since then, it has been used to mean "innocence," "innocence," and "innocence."

However, in reality, innocent beings hurt people because of their innocence and innocence. This is especially true when it comes to children whose social and ethical foundations have not been nurtured. The rich sensibility of being honestly moved by beautiful things and the violent nature of attacking others indiscriminately coexist in an undifferentiated state. It is not uncommon for children to commit acts of cruelty towards insects and small animals. It is an extension of play.

Katsuhiro Otomo's science fiction manga `` Domu '', which I read when I was a teenager, was exactly such a work. Suspicious death incidents occur one after another in a mammoth housing complex. The culprit was Mr. Chow, an old man but a child at heart. He controlled powerful supernatural powers and caused the deaths of innocent people one after another with a childlike sense of mischief. Eventually, the family of Etsuko, a girl with psychic powers, moves into the housing complex. Etsuko, who learns Mr. Chou's true identity, decides that she cannot leave him alone like this and challenges him to fight alone.

Innovative screen composition and detailed landscape depictions. Katsuhiro Otomo has shown the spectacular psychic wars between innocent children with overwhelming artistic ability. This work, which began serialization in magazines in 1980, eventually became a world standard comic with fans all over the world. In the 1990s, David Lynch reportedly started making a movie version of Domu . ?).

`` Thelma '' (17) and `` The Worst Person in the World '' Eskil Vogt, who is known for his screenplay for '' (21), was also fascinated by this work. Children with ambiguous distinctions between right and wrong, a mammoth housing complex, and telekinesis and telepathy. ``The Innocents'' (21), which he directed and wrote, is full of motifs inspired by `` Dome ''. This film won four awards at the Amanda Awards, known as Norway's Academy Awards (Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Sound, and Best Editing). This is a new masterpiece from Northern Europe, which has produced a series of difficult works such as `` Border: Two Worlds '' (2018) and `` LAMB '' (21).
