"The Day After" synopsis

Ah-reum (Kim Min-hee) is introduced by a university professor to work at Book Publishing Kang, a small publishing company whose president is Bong-wan (Kwon Hae-hyo), who is also a famous critic. Bong-wan's wife suspects him of cheating because he wakes up at 4:30 every morning to go to work and doesn't return until late at night. Ah-reum starts working at the publishing company he runs for the first time. Bong-wan welcomes Ah-reum warmly and immediately goes to a nearby Chinese restaurant for lunch. Ah-reum is confused by Bong-wan, who tries to close the distance all at once, trying to stop using formal honorifics. On the same afternoon, Ah-reum was suddenly punched by a woman who barged into his office. Bong-wan's wife (Cho Yoon-hee) finds evidence of his affair and mistakes Ah-reum for her husband's mistress. My wife doesn't believe me when I explain that today is my first day at work. Cornered, Bong-wan replies that the person she had an affair with has gone abroad and doesn't know his whereabouts.

Prolific director Hong Sang-soo, who is popular to the core, and actress Kim Min-hee, who has declared his girlfriend

South Korea's Hong Sang-soo can certainly be named as one of the active directors who is passionately loved by cinephiles (movie fanatics) around the world, especially core audiences in Europe and Japan. His world becomes addictive. Moreover, he is incredibly prolific, and his pace is increasing year by year, which is unprecedented. In 2012, four new films including `` Hahaha '' were released in Japan, followed by ` `The Three Annes '' starring the famous French actress Isabelle Huppert, and in 2014 `` Hye Won's Love Diary'' ” and “ Soni wa Goki Naname ” were released in Japan. At the end of the same year, there was also “ Jiyugaoka de ” starring Ryo Kase!

This amazing work is not due to any hard commercial demands. All of the works are original projects and are all ``author films'' that fully express Hong Sang-soo's personality. It's like he's breathing, making movies. The content is basically all sketches of daily life, and you could say that he releases new works in the same way as updating a blog. Perhaps this light, unshakeable quality is seen as the ultimate ideal creative environment, and it is extremely popular among film directors in the same industry (probably saying, ``I'm jealous!'').

And this year, four new films will be released in Japan again this year. All of them star Kim The Handmaiden -hee, a beautiful actress best known for her role in ``The Handmaiden'' (2016, directed by Park Chan-wook).

In fact, Hong Sang-soo (57 years old) and Kim Min-hee (36 years old) are currently in a relationship. However, since Hong Sang-soo has a wife and child, the two caused quite a stir in Korean entertainment news due to their affair scandal (the director is currently filing a divorce lawsuit).

Almost every Hong Sang-soo movie features a man who likes women and is unfaithful. Moreover, he is often an ``artistic film director who teaches at universities and gives lectures at screenings.'' He uses a lot of characters that make it easy to say, ``It's you!'' (lol). Of course, there are complex twists and gaps between self-projection and fiction, but the current uproar feels like it's moving through the world of movies in an all-too-easy-to-understand manner. Does the personal life situation of the director himself go beyond ``I'm jealous!'' to the level of ``I can't help it?'' The way he confuses his public and private life with his leading actress is reminiscent of Woody Allen when he worked with Diane Keaton and Mia Farrow.
