A young Frenchman who gets caught up in the movie business.

1985. In order to make up for the budget overruns of `` Subway '' and the debts of `` The Last Battle ,'' Besson rushes to his old friend Gaumont (a major French film production company) and secures an investment, while at the same time asking Jean Reno, who played Enzo, He began location scouting with Eric Serra, the music director, and Clitosfer Lambert, who originally wanted to play Jack. Meanwhile, he visits Beatty's house in LA to make a contract, and when he hands over the drafted script, he is told that they are waiting for a decision. By the way, Beatty's daily routine at the time was to jog for 30 minutes on a treadmill while watching the 8 o'clock news every night.

1986. Besson was keeping an eye on the development of a new camera capable of deep-sea filming, which could be said to be the lifeblood of a movie, but he was still struggling with cash flow, having used up the $25,000 he had been given as an advance by Beatty on location scouting. Meanwhile, Beatty has begun preparing for ``Ishtar,'' with instructions to add Mayol's background to the script, and it has become difficult to contact him. At this point, Besson had returned to his original argument that he did not want The Big Blue to be a Hollywood blockbuster. I guess I was just soaring.

So he sends Beatty a polite letter of rejection, scrapes together the money he doesn't have, and refunds the $25,000. The person he ran into was Gaumont after all. Gaumont's chairman and CEO, Nicolas Seydoux (Léa Seydoux's great-uncle), who received the script from Besson, was deeply impressed by the content and wanted to produce it. At the same time, Warner, who had seen ``Subway'' and was interested, also contacted Gaumont, and Gaumont and Warner sought to co-produce the film on the condition that it be rewritten.

Casting was also difficult. Rosanna Arquette, whom Besson met in LA, was deeply moved by the story Besson told her and immediately decided to play the role of Jack's lover, Joanna, but the problem was Jack. After turning down Lambert, he meets Mickey Rourke in Paris and finds out that he is not available, as expected, and Nicolas Seydoux ends up saying that Besson is the right person for the role. When Arquette heard this, she asked Besson to lose 10 kg with a serious look on her face. After such a joke-like incident, she finally meets Jean-Marc Barr, who exudes the romance of being a diver, at an audition in London.
