“Lost in Translation” synopsis
Hollywood actor Bob Harris (Bill Murray) comes to Japan to shoot a whiskey commercial, but is unable to communicate effectively on set due to the thick language barrier. At the hotel, he is fed up with the frequent faxes he receives from his wife in America, and even though he is tired, he cannot sleep and spends his days alone at the hotel bar. Meanwhile, Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson) is a young wife who came to Japan with her husband, a popular photographer, and happened to be staying at the same hotel as Bob. Her husband was busy with work, and like Bob, she suffered from insomnia. The two, both feeling lonely, meet and speak for the first time at a hotel bar. Charlotte invites Bob to go out on the streets of Tokyo, and the two spend free time at clubs and karaoke with young Japanese friends of Charlotte's. Although the two were quite apart in age, before they knew it, they had started working together in the foreign land of Tokyo.

Sofia Coppola's real-life experiences made into a movie
I'm sorry to hear that this is a topic that only applies to the film industry, but the screening room at Omnibus Japan, an affiliate of the long-established film production company Tohoku Shinsha, is called "Sofia" and Sofia Coppola's Signs is written on the door. has been done. This may have something to do with the fact that Tohokushinsha distributes all of Sofia's works, and they also co-produce her recent works, but Sofia often came to Japan during her childhood to work with her father. , has deep ties to Japan.
Her father is Francis Ford Coppola. He is a master director of the well-known `` The Godfather '' series (1972-1990) and `` Apocalypse Now '' (1979). Nowadays, Sofia has set out on her own path as a film director without having to add her father's name, but when her name first became known to the world, she was nothing more than her parent's name. Although she was chosen to play the big role of Al Pacino's daughter in `` The Godfather Part III '' (1990) without any acting experience, she won two awards at the 11th Golden Raspberry Awards in 1991: Worst Newcomer Award and Worst Supporting Actress Award. After achieving this goal, I was suddenly branded as having no talent as an actor.
A few years later, her name started to attract attention in places other than movies. Kim Gordon, a member of Sonic Youth, participated as a producer in the brand X-girl, which he started with his friend, and around the same time he became a fashion magazine photographer, model, and launched his own brand, MILK FED, making him the worst actor. She performed an activity that made her forget the Notorious of her childhood, and her presence became an idol of girls' culture.
She has been visiting Japan frequently since the late 1990s. He has been a photographer for X-girl shows and Japanese magazine advertisements, and after launching his own brand, he has had more opportunities to come to Japan for exhibitions and other events, and has also been staying in Japan more often for private purposes. His first photo exhibition was held at Shibuya Parco in Tokyo.
At that time, Sophia's regular lodging was the Creston Hotel in Shibuya. It's a small hotel with 53 rooms in a residential area near NHK, but since it's located just past Shibuya Station through Udagawa-cho, I was able to see Shibuya from a very close distance in the mid-1990s, when it was at its most culturally vibrant. It turns out. In the 2000s, he began staying at the Park Hyatt Tokyo in Nishi-Shinjuku, where he liked the atmosphere of the hotel itself and never left the hotel, feeling like a recluse. There's a New York bar, a beauty salon, and a pool, so you can now spend your time comfortably.
If you watch "Lost in Translation" with this premise in mind, you will see that Hollywood star Bob Harris (Bill Murray) comes to Japan by himself to shoot a commercial, and Charlotte (Scarlett), who has followed her husband's work. Johansson) can also be seen as a reflection of Sofia Coppola herself.
