Movies are a mirror that reflects the times. Of course, the historical background of the story depicted on screen is of course important, but the behind-the-scenes atmosphere of the era in which it was produced is often reflected in the work. ``Roman Holiday'' is a prime example of this. It's not wrong to think of this movie as a romantic romance between a princess visiting Rome and The Journalist, but there are far too complicated circumstances hidden behind the scenes to say so.

The baton passed from Capra to Wyler.
It all started in 1949, four years before the movie was released. Frank Capra was considering making a new adaptation of the Academy Award-winning classic `` It Happened One Night '' (34), starring Cary Grant and Elizabeth Taylor. However, Capra withdrew from the project after learning that the production costs he had hoped for would be significantly reduced. William Wyler took his place.
Wyler had high hopes for the concept of being the first full-fledged Hollywood film to be shot on location in Rome, despite budget constraints such as the originally planned color work being changed to black and white. At the time the film was being made, right-wing US Republican Senator Joseph McCarthy and others were in the midst of the so-called "Red Scare", an attempt to eliminate Communist Party members and Communist sympathizers in the country. It was a dark era that greatly affected Hollywood movie production. Wyler, who is known as a liberal, called out to his friends who had been forced out of work during the Red Scares, and enthusiastically departed for Rome, far away from the surveillance of film companies.
