“The Cross of Iron” Synopsis

During World War II, in 1943, when Germany was beginning to lose the battle, the Russian front was set. Set in a company in the German army, Peckinpah's masterpiece depicts the feud between a humane corporal and a cold-hearted company commander, and the murky human situation surrounding the award of the Iron Cross, considered the highest honor. The scene of people covered in mud and blood violently killing each other in the midst of flying shells stands out among all the war movies of all time. The “laughter” at the end leaves a strong impact.

The filmmaking of the master of violence, Peckinpah

If you are a movie lover, you have probably heard this name at least once. However, because the impact of the sound is so strong, some young people may have never seen the work. There is nothing to be ashamed of. Those who have not seen it should consider themselves lucky that they will have the pleasure of experiencing its extraordinary charm in the future. And the digitally remastered version of "The Cross of Iron" should provide you with the perfect opportunity to make up your mind and dive into Peckinpah's world.

Also known as the "master of violence" and "the last Western director," Peckinpah continued to update his legend until his death at the young age of 59 in the 1980s. He was said to have "yelled once every five seconds" on all sets, and any staff member who was incompetent was immediately fired. He repeatedly clashed with producers over the number of shooting days, budgets, and editing, and even though his bad reputation became known within the industry and he was shunned, he never kowtowed and always put all his effort into pursuing the world he wanted to depict.

Perhaps there was a way to live more wisely. But he rejected that option and pushed forward, leaving behind 14 amazing films along the way. Among them, "The Cross of Iron" shines with a particularly eerie brilliance. It was Peckinpah's first and last war film. Now that the world is full of a sense of guilt, perhaps we should once again take a look at Peckinpah's designs and feel something from this strange work.
