Difficulty living in crime-prone areas

The main characters of this work are three young men and their families living in the South Central area of Los Angeles. South Central is a high-crime area of Los Angeles, and as you pass through the main thoroughfares, you can see many retail stores fitted with anti-burglar bars.

The main character is "Tre" (Cuba Gooding, Jr.), who was kicked out of his mother's house after he did not fit in at school and caused trouble, and grew up in his father's house who lives away from him, and his friend, an excellent American football player. The players are Ricky (Morris Chestnut) and his older brother Doughboy (Ice Cube). The three people who played their respective roles went on to have brilliant careers as actors thanks to their fresh and splendid performances and the reputation of this work. This is also the film debut of Regina King, who would go on to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in If Beale Street Could Talk '' (2018).

Thanks in part to the influence of his thoughtful and strict father Furious, played by Laurence Fishburne, Tre has become an excellent student in his studies, while Ricky has received an offer from a university through his success in American football. Inside, they both dreamed of the bright hope of becoming university students. However, Doughboy, whom he grew up with, ends up joining a street gang.

As you can see from the main story, Doughboy is a kind-hearted young man. The reason he ended up joining a gang is thought to be due to his connections and environment in a crime-prone area. Tre and Ricky are also faced with various temptations as they aim to attend university. Alcohol and drugs, friends calling for participation in crime and strife, and advertisements calling for conscription for the poor... The film depicts the ``reality'' of how difficult it is for those born as black Americans who live in poverty to grow up properly.
