A Shaft designed to be loved

In 2019, “Shaft” returns once again. It will be released in Japan on Netflix from June 28th, 19 years after the previous film was released in 2000, and in the US it will be released in theaters from June 14th.

Shaft is John Shaft, a private detective who has an office in Harlem, New York. John Shaft first appeared in the 1970 novel The Black Jaguar (1972 Hayakawa Novels, out of print) by a white writer and screenwriter named Ernest Tidyman.

The novel was made into a movie by the major film company MGM called `` The Black Jaguar '' (1971). New actor Richard Roundtree was cast in the lead role of John Shaft, and the film was a hit. Around this time, MGM was on the verge of bankruptcy due to financial difficulties, but the success of ``Black Jaguar'' helped it survive. There was a reason why movies like this were such hits.

John Shaft protected the black community by fighting against the police and the mafia, which polluted the black community with gambling and drugs. There's no reason why the audience wouldn't love such a protagonist. As a result, John Shaft received two sequels and even a television series by 1974. This is extremely rare for a black character. Then, after some time passed, John Shaft returned again in 2000.
