The beginning of a new era of action movies
``Bad Boys'' was an innovative movie that seemed to signal the beginning of a new era for action movies. This film is set in Miami, a beach resort known for the TV series " Miami Vice " (1984-89), and stars Michael Vice, who for some reason appears in the role of actor Choi in "Miami Vice." This is his first directorial work.
After Michael Bay demonstrated his skills as a commercial director and won a prestigious award in the commercial world, he also directed music videos for Meat Loaf and Tina Turner , and his future prospects were high. Michael Bay's talent was discovered by two major producers, Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, who worked on ` `Beverly Hills Cop '' (1984). The original script, ``Bullet Proof Hearts,'' which later became ``Bad Boys,'' was a comedy written for `` Saturday Night Live '' stars Dana Carvey and Jon Lovitz. However, Simpson and Bruckheimer recalled that they had originally planned to star Sylvester Stallone in ``Beverly Hills Cop,'' but they succeeded by changing to Eddie Murphy at the last minute, so they decided to take the same approach with ``Bad Boys.'' However, casting the two leading roles was difficult.

Candidates include Eddie Murphy, an old friend from ``Beverly Hills Beverly Hills Cop,'' Arsenio Hall from ``The Coming to America '' (1988), and Laurence Fishburne from `` Boyz 'n the Hood '' (1991). However, in the end, they chose Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, two people who had never starred in a movie before.
Will Smith was originally a rapper, but he appeared in films such as Made in America (1993) and Six Strangers (1993), and was popular at the time in the TV sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1990-1996, not aired in Japan). Martin Lawrence also appeared in Do the Right Thing (1989) and Boomerang (1992), and played the lead role in the TV sitcom Martin (1992-1997, not aired in Japan). Simpson and Bruckheimer selected these two, who had gained popularity through starring in TV shows, and created new movie stars.
