A new space of sound and images was born.

Realizing that the things that evoke memories no longer exist in the real city, he revisits old newspaper articles. On November 18, 1983, a large advertisement appeared in the Asahi Shimbun, taking up two-thirds of the front page.

"Opening today at 11:00am. WAVE, a new space of sound and video. ROPPONGI SEIBU"

To quote the advertisement: ``Wave is a space for sound and images created with completely new ideas. [Omitted] Wave is an urban base that launches a variety of sound and image information. At the same time, it is a quiet wharf for city people to create their own wavelength.'' (*Editor's note in brackets)

The building was seven stories high and divided into three parts. Cine Vivant Roppongi is a mini-theater on the first basement floor, Diskport is a record shop that collects music from all over the world on the first to fourth floors, and studios for recording and computer graphics are on the fifth to seventh floors. .

On the ``Tokyo 23 Wards'' page of the newspaper, there was an article about the ``Opening of the Hall of Sound and Image'', with the headline ``An eye-catching unique exterior''.

``The dark gray, windowless, black box-like building blends in with the glittering city of Roppongi.

In this way, the building's former appearance emerges from the other side of time.

There was a feeling of something foreign in that dark gray building. In Roppongi, where there were many adult clubs such as luxury clubs, stylish cafe bars, and discos, this intellectual cultural building suddenly appeared. It seemed like a mysterious object that had come from outer space. It has a seductive atmosphere and is difficult to approach at first, but once inside, it has a mysterious magical power that becomes addictive.

In recent years, multipurpose buildings have focused on fashion and food, but WAVE is a cultural building whose only selling point is sound and video. At that time, there was no other building that unified itself with such an intellectual image.
