4th place: "Fast and Furious" (01) Director: Rob Cohen 107 minutes

The memorable first work that became the origin of “family bonds”

The first work is the starting point without which the entire series would not exist. As has been said repeatedly, the story itself is a spin-off of the Keanu Reeves-starrer ` `Point Break '' (1991), in which an FBI agent infiltrates a group of robbers led by a charismatic surfer. There's no denying that it's pretty much the same plot, with the surfing replaced by street car racing, but Paul Walker, who played Brian, came up with the original idea.

At the time, Walker was touted as a good-looking actor and had just worked with director Rob Cohen and producer Neal H. Moritz on The Skull (2000). Cohen and Moritz asked Walker, ``What do you want to do next?'' Walker had been thinking about making a hybrid of the car action movie ` `Days of Thunder '' (1990) and the undercover investigation movie `` Fake '' (1997). He proposed the idea.

However, there was a lot of pressure on Walker to shoulder the burden of being the poster child for an entertainment blockbuster all by himself, so Vin Diesel was chosen to reassure Walker by providing him with a charismatic co-star. Also, Jordana Brewster, who plays Mia Toretto, is an up-and-coming actress who made her debut in 1998's " Parasite ," while Michelle Rodriguez is a raw material who was literally just discovered by an unknown amateur in the 2000 indie film " Girlfight ." In any case, there are no Big stars with name value, and it can be said that it was a fresh start by casting young people whose futures are yet to come.

What made this film so much more than a subversion of Point Break was that it dealt with the familial bonds of the Latinx community. Brian, played by Walker, is the main character with a blond, blue-eyed, and old-fashioned visual appearance even at the time, but the Latin cast, including Diesel, Brewster, and Rodriguez, symbolized the existence of minorities that were rarely neglected in Hollywood. It was also very effective in cultivating a new fan base around the world.

The motif of unity among minorities becomes one of the major elements that make up this series. However, at the time of the first film, the production team's stance was still ambiguous, and Rodriguez, who played Letty, was bitter about this. Although it was Rodriguez's first major Hollywood role, he was dissatisfied with the script and refused to appear unless it was revised.

The original script included a love triangle in which Letty was Dominic's lover, but also attracted to Brian. However, based on Latin culture and values, Rodriguez argued, ``There's no way she'd have an affair with a good-looking white guy when the best of the best men are here!'' Rodriguez recalled crying, saying, ``Please don't sue me, but I can't do this in front of millions of people.'' Although she was still a newcomer, her desperate thoughts may be said to have brought the "soul" that is essential to the "Waispi" series.
