6th place: "Fast and Furious X3 TOKYO DRIFT" (06) Director: Justin Lin 105 minutes

The strange depiction of Japan is also charming! A thrilling youth story that moves forward with high tension.

The third film is no longer connected to the previous two films, with the main characters Dominic and Brian gone, and a bad American high school student transferring to Tokyo. However, it was inevitable that the production team would be interested in Japanese drift racing, and the idea of setting it in Tokyo is by no means far-fetched. According to screenwriter Chris Morgan, who joined the series with this work, he originally wrote a plot in which Dominic gets involved in a murder case in Tokyo, but ``That (starring Vin Diesel) wasn't an option, so I decided to make it a story about high school students.'' "Please do so," he said.

Paul Walker, who plays Brian, who can be said to be the creator of this series, was not even offered a role. The new main character is Sean, a speedy high school student played by Lucas Black. He was kicked out of his local high school due to his bad behavior, such as crashing while racing in the city, and was transferred to the high school in Tokyo where his father lives. The plot is that he becomes the apprentice of Han (Sang Kang), a man who spends all his time racing street cars in Shibuya, and improves his drifting skills.

It's endearing that there are so many strange depictions of Japan that you would expect from a Hollywood movie. Even though many of the scenes were filmed in the United States due to Japan's traffic regulations and the difficulty of obtaining permission to film, the car chase in which the film is filmed guerillaly on the streets of Tokyo during the arrest process is worth watching. Keiichi Tsuchiya, a former racer known as the ``Drift King,'' is participating as a technical advisor, and it is also a highlight to see him showing off his superb technique as a stand-up driver.

Also, Keiko Kitagawa who played the role of a mechanic who was 19 years old at the time of filming, Yoko Maki who played the role of her father's mistress who only appears in one scene, and Satoshi Tsumabuki who was a male race starter, which is rare in the series, are ``that person in his youth''. Nowadays, it is rare to see them. Of particular note is Rie Shibata, who plays the role of a high school teacher. Although she has the image of Rie Shibata, who is well-known in Japanese tearooms, she also works brilliantly as a Hollywood-style comedic relief, making us realize the strength of her complete artistic style.

Although it is often treated as a rarity, the direction by director Justin Lin, who participated in this film for the first time and later became the director with the most appearances in the series, is energetic and dynamic. The car chase with his classmates at the beginning of the film shows off the mischievous nature of the main character, Sean, and it's one of the best scenes in the series. In any case, this film did not do well at the box office (outside of Japan), and if the quality had been poor, Justin Lin would not have appeared again, so the production team must have felt good about it.

The character of Han was the charm and mystery of this work. Why is this Korean-Asian living so casually in Tokyo, courting beautiful women, and playing around with high school students as his apprentices even though he is a good adult? Since he dies in a car crash in the middle of the movie, you might think that the mystery will remain a mystery, but if you watch it again after learning about ``EURO MISSION,'' you will be able to see this work from a completely new perspective. When you think about Han's lonely suicide after losing Giselle, it turns into a touching movie that you can't watch without crying. This too should be passed down as a ``retrofitted miracle'' caused by ``Wispi''.
