"Ora Ora de Hitori Igumo" Director Shuichi Okita I don't want to see "warm everyday life" (lol) [Director's Interview Vol.90]
Machiko Washio was really good.
Q: Not only Tanaka-san, who plays the lead role, but the actors around him are also very impressive. Seiji Rokkaku only appeared in a small role, but his role was quite intense and interesting. What is the point of casting?
Okita: I feel like I had a hard time deciding which role Rokkaku-san should play, but one day I suddenly thought, "Oh, it's Rokkaku-san," and when I told the producer, he was like, "Oh, that's great." Get excited. That's how I made the offer.
Q: Personally, I really like the role of Mr. Rokkaku, and I was happy that he really appeared in the scene where everyone was parading together.
Okita: Good. I said that Rokkaku-san should definitely be in that scene. Isn't it okay not to be there? There was also an opinion. However, I decided that I should definitely stay there.
Q: Each character stands out and everyone seems really good, but to what extent do you leave it up to the actors to develop the characters?
Okita: We talk about how we can make it more interesting, and then he shows us the rest on set. I haven't done anything special beyond that. I think the actors I've worked with many times know what kind of things I like. It might feel like that.
Q: Who is the first actor you worked with this time?
Okita: The same goes for Yu Aoi, Masahiro Higashide, and Kankuro Kudo. I have worked with Gaku Hamada and Takataka Aoki before, and they both look good and are good at acting. If you think about it, there were a lot of people here for the first time this time. It was also my first time to see Machiko Washio, and she was really good.
Q: Mr. Washio, you played the role of a librarian.
Okita: Every time Momoko-san goes to the library, the librarian played by Washio-san recommends various lessons, but when I took pictures of various patterns on the same day and edited them together later, I realized that she was acting differently each time. Yes. I was surprised. Also, Takashi Yamanaka, who played the role of the doctor, was so funny that I had him put on caveman makeup, and when he was acting, he suddenly burst into tears. Tanaka-san was also surprised. After it was over, Mr. Tanaka was laughing a little.
Q: Was there no need to cry in the script?
Okita: Yes. Mr. Yamanaka started crying on his own (lol).
