I watched ``The Waterless Pool'' without telling my family.

Q: Please tell us about your encounter with director Okita and movies.

Okita: When I was in high school, I used to play around with my friends by filming various things with a video camera, but when I tried editing them myself, they only ended up being about 5 minutes long. I thought it was amazing that a movie was two hours long (lol).

At that time, I was watching a lot of movies, and there was a video rental store on the second floor of the local bookstore called ``Book Center Yomuyomu'', so I watched every single video there. I really liked ``ATG'' and `` Kazoku The Game '' (1983). I watched a lot of movies by directors Masayuki Suo, Juzo Itami, and Shinji Somai, such as watching `` Waterless Pool '' (1982) without telling my family. I was especially influenced by director Yoshimitsu Morita. It's a little embarrassing to say too much (lol).

Q: What kind of movies will Director Okita make in the future?

Okita: I think I'll continue to do the same thing one by one, but as I get older I'm getting more and more cloudy, and I can't make movies like I used to (laughs). Anyway, I think it's no good if we don't take on each challenge one by one. This time was also a great challenge.

But maybe I'll make a movie where people die.

Q: Huh! really! ?

Okita: I think there will be a lot of challenges, and I think I'll enjoy it a little more if I can try different things without thinking too much about myself.
