"Family movies" that can be a curse or a new frontier
In 2012, " Tokyo Story " (53) was selected as the "best film" by 358 film directors from around the world in "Sight & Sound" magazine published by the British Film Institute (BFI). " Harmonium on the Edge" (2016) won the Jury Prize in the "Un Certain Regard" category at the 69th Cannes Film Festival. `` Shoplifters '' (18) won the Palme d'Or at the 71st Cannes Film Festival. In Japanese movies, ``family movies'' have a unique ``style'' and ``awesomeness.''
Director Kiyoshi Kurosawa, who won the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize at the 61st Cannes Film Festival for Tokyo Sonata (2008), also said that he had to be prepared to make a family film. For many filmmakers, the ``family movie'' is a genre that makes them feel like they shouldn't take on the challenge half-heartedly. It is a dangerous situation that could threaten the manager's career, and it is both a danger and a possibility that could be a new frontier in his career.
Directed by Kazuya Shiraishi, a master craftsman who continues to portray the pinnacle of human lust and passion in works such as ``Violent'' (2013), `` The Birds Whose Names Do Not Know '' (17), and ``Lone Wolf's Blood '' (18). His latest film, ``One Nigh'' (2019), clearly conveys his boundless spirit in taking on the challenge of making family films. Speaking of ``Kimon'' and ``Shinkyochi'' mentioned earlier, this work will definitely become his new masterpiece. An unmistakable masterpiece - worthy of being called that, it radiates unparalleled brilliance.
“One Nigh” preview
“One Nigh” is set in a small taxi company in a local city. In order to protect her young children from the violence of her husband, a business owner, her wife runs him over and kills him one rainy night. She takes on all the responsibilities and leaves, leaving the children in a panic over an unexpected situation. He left behind the words, "I'll be back in 15 years." And modern times. The children's lives have been twisted by the incident, and their mother returns home after serving her sentence. Will this reunion bring light or darkness?
The broken family is played by Yuko Tanaka as the mother Koharu, Ryohei Suzuki as the eldest son Taiki, Takeshi Sato as the second son Yuji, and Mayu Matsuoka as the youngest son Sonoko. The actors are both popular and talented, but the image of a mother who is "right even when she's wrong" is overwhelmingly embodied by Tanaka. Many of her co-stars longed to meet her, and it is no wonder that she received an offer. With her imposing presence, she powerfully drives the ``tempo'' and ``emotions'' of the story.
A structure that brings out the moment when you “start living” as a role.
