A brilliant debut work filled with the essence of the Coen brothers.

The first feature film of a master film director often contains the essence that will lead to his later career.

For example, the Coen brothers' ``Blood Simple'' (1984), which rose to fame in the early 1980s, can be said to be a typical example. Their signature style is to make human figures stand out in vast canvases such as snow and wilderness, and this style is still present in this work. As if there is no one else in this world other than the characters, a very limited number of men and women unfold a minimalist neo-noir in a vast land far from the city and on an endless highway.

None of the characters are talented. No one can predict every possibility, and everyone is ad hoc. Even so, as I try to overcome the crisis and become confused by the events in front of me, I find myself pressing the wrong buttons more and more. The Coen brothers' style is to create this kind of suspense in a humorous atmosphere with plenty of space and space, unrelated to seriousness.

"Blood Simple" trailer

My impression is that this sibling duo doesn't talk too much about their own work, but in particular, they made a director's cut of this work, and a remake by Chinese master Zhang Yimou (`` Women and Guns''). From their licensing of ``Noodle Shop in the Wilderness (09)'' to the production of a 4K restored version in recent years, they have repeatedly provided the world with opportunities to ``refocus'' their work instead of ``talking about it.'' It looks like it is.

This is probably proof that they themselves value this origin very much and want their fans to experience this work as many times as they can.
