A neat line inspired by James Bond

One of the great points about ``Commando'' is the number of clever lines that the main character, Matrix, utters when defeating enemies. For example, if you instantly snap the neck of a villain sitting next to you on an airliner, you will cover the corpse with a blanket and say something to the flight attendant.

"Please don't wake him, he's dead tired."

It's a joke that's bordering on bad taste, but in ``Command,'' the pattern of defeating the villain ⇒ making a joke is repeated.

One of the most famous scenes is when Matrix holds the leg of a villain named Sally with one hand and suspends him from a cliff.

Schwa: “You said you would kill me at the end, right?”

Villain: “Yes! Help me!!”

Schwa: “That’s a lie.”

said Matrix, letting go of his hand. The villain falls headlong off the cliff with a scream...

In 1985, on the opening day of the film's release in the United States, people in the audience shouted ``You're lying'' to the screen before Schwarzenegger could. This scene was shown many times in the trailers, and audiences loved it and remembered it. Manager Leicester also reflected on this.

``As soon as the movie was released, the theaters were filled to capacity, and the audience was anticipating saying lines they knew out loud.``It's a lie'' was one of them, and it became very famous. It was a popular phrase that could go down in film history."

The idea for this joke came from Schwarzenegger himself. He asked the scriptwriters to come up with a number of witty jokes, and filmed several versions of them. Director Lester was also very enthusiastic about the project, saying that he was inspired by James Bond. However, there was a big problem. It's Schwarzenegger's heavily accented English that I mentioned earlier.

It is said that the most difficult scenes to film in ``Command'' were not the action scenes, but the dialogue scenes. One scene that bothered Lester, the director, was a scene in a shopping mall where Matrix talks to his female partner, Cindy, to lure out a villain.

"It's the longest line in the whole movie. It took a long time to shoot. We reshot it many times until we got it right. There was a lot of tension on set because the studio executives were there. Every time Arnold made a mistake in his line, everyone It was nerve-wracking. Lawrence Gordon, the executive, was especially dissatisfied. He said, ``I told you not to let him talk!'' We ended up making it through, but they were frustrated by the length of the shoot. (lol)"

The director recalls the scene in question, but it was only about 30 seconds long. There must have been some concerns about Schwarzenegger's English ability, but the jokes he can tell need to be in short sentences. The scriptwriter tried through trial and error to find out how to make an effective joke with short lines. The result was the birth of the famous line, ``It's a lie.''
