Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman's historic performance

I think what will deeply move everyone who watches this movie is the performances of the two lead actors. The first person cast was Dustin Hoffman, who played Ratso. It all started when playwright Jack Gilber, who was one of the screenwriter candidates, recommended Hoffman, who had appeared in the off-Broadway play "Eh?". In the original story, Ratso is described like this: ``He was skinny, with the build of a child.'' Herrmann thought the role was perfect for the diminutive Hoffmann.

On the day he was supposed to meet director Schlesinger, Hoffmann dressed like a beggar and begged for coins on the street. This behavior was also a deciding factor in getting the role. Ta. Since he didn't have a script, he apparently thought about his role while reading the original story ( The Graduate (1967), which was filmed later, ended up being released first, and Hoffman suddenly became a household name). ``Midnight Cowboy'' earned Hoffman his second Oscar nomination after ``The Graduate.''

Hoffman was the only candidate for the role of Ratso, but the role of the cowboy was initially cast by another actor. This is Michael Sarrazin, who starred in `` Lonely Youth '' (1969). However, due to the contract with the film company, Michael asked for three times the originally planned salary, and the story hit a dead end. There were several other male Cowboy nominees, including Jon Voight, who had appeared on stage and in movies, and was one of the finalists. So I consulted with Hoffman, and he said something like this: ``In camera test footage with other actors, you can't help but look at yourself. But when you're acting with Voight, you see him.''

Those words also served as a deciding factor, and newcomer Voight was chosen to play the role of the cowboy. Voight had previously appeared in films directed by Philip Kaufman and John Sturges, but this was the first time Voight received much attention and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor.

A cowboy who comes out of the countryside and dreams of success in the city. Ratso tries to survive in the city using his old wisdom. The life of these two living in a room with no electricity or heating is extremely miserable, but thanks to the warm acting of the two actors, we are moved by their bond. Voight maintains a boy-like innocence in his smile and shows a natural acting style. Hoffman uses an elaborate role to show the refraction of a character who has walked through the underbelly of the city. By hiring new actors with real talent, a realistic performance that will go down in history was born.
