Screenwriter Lee Hall originally came up with the idea for the film version of the story. Having come up with the unusual and vivid image of a ballet boy running through his hometown, it didn't take long for him to delve into other specific details. Furthermore, in the process of making the film, classic ballet songs such as ``Swan Lake'' were selected, as well as famous songs by British bands that colored the era, such as T-Rex, The Jam, and The Clash.
Needless to say, director Stephen Daldry and screenwriter Lee Hall worked hard as key staff members on this musical version. But that's not all. With the addition of the powerful personality of Elton John, a powerful new musical essence suitable for the musical version was cultivated.
