Immortan Joe's visuals leave a strong impact

Following `` Mad Max: Thunderdome '' and ` `Babe '' (1998), the production design inherited George Miller's tastes, such as the appearance of a huge ``birdcage'' (he himself also said ``Birdcage''). (I use it unconsciously!'') Among them, the one that leaves the most impact is the visual of Immortan Joe.

"The name was a corruption of the word immortal, so it needed to look like a demigod. They need a filter to breathe, but a simple mask would make them look like a sick person. So I decided to make a mask like that out of a horse's jawbone and teeth.Hugh Keays-Byrne, who plays Immortan Joe, originally had long white hair, and he dangled his nephews and nieces from his hair and made them swing in the air. His hair was so thick (really?!). Initially, the design was for Immortan Joe to wear a suit of armor with a shaved head. Hugh readily agreed to shave his head, but in the end he decided to keep his proud hair. It was to be.

In this world, the air is poisonous, so humans are either ``half alive'' or ``fully alive.'' Full-type humans have normal skin and can get sunburned, but half-type humans suffer from skin diseases, including cutaneous lymphoma and blood disorders. A good example is Nux's tumor from the Warboys (Immortan Joe's fighting group), where the half-sized people paint their skin white. It exists between this world and the next life or heaven."
